The Name Game

Geraldine Crockett Slaughter posted the above photo to the Norris Family Yahoo Group as a bit of a challenge. I think some of the family members are fairly easy to identify. What do y'all think?

The sweet white-haired lady in the far left with the bonnet in her hand is Geraldine's Grandma Crockett.

Well, no one else will take a stab at it so I will. The front row is Earnestine Norris Holcombe holding I think Charlotte Holcombe Smith, Boyd Norris, possibly a Crockett girl kneeling, unknown girl, Mike Norris, Alene Norris, possibly Charles Holcombe, Edna Norris Crockett, no clue who the child is she is holding. The next row is Granny Crockett, possibly Velma Norris Shelby Freeman, possibly Eligie Holcombe, Louis Norris, Mischeal Norris Jr., and Grandma Norris. How did I do?

Gayle, Well, you were right about your mother, Earnestine, but this picture was made in 1948 (apparently summer) and Charlotte was born in April, 1947 so the baby isn't Charlotte.

Both the girls kneeling are Crockett girls (but which ones?). Mike is next to Aunt Aleene, but the other child on her lap is not Charles as Charles was about 5 1/2 at this time. Next is Edna and the girl she is holding is about 3 years older than you. The back row is Aunt Velma, and definitely your Dad, Uncle Lige, Uncle Lewis, Uncle Junior and Grandma Norris.

That makes 11 right, 2 wrong and several still unnamed.

Okay, here's my try.

The girl kneeling in front is my mom (Peggy) and the girl kneeling behind here is Aunt Dutchie. I think the baby that Grandma Crockett (Edna) is holding might be Julie.

Am I right so far Aunt Geraldine?

You're absolutely right!

Aunt Geraldine

I believe the girl child Aunt Edna Crockett is holding is me... I'm fairly positive of that based on other photos of me at that age. I don't believe it could be Julia because her facial features were much finer, her face not at full as this child's.

What do y'all think?
