Photo Recap - Corrected Date

It seems the first photo above was taken December 25, 1957, and was not taken at the time of the 50th anniversary celebration of Grandma and Grandpa. Jane Holcombe sent a batch of photos for me to scan for use in the family blog and a duplicate of the photo was included. On the back was the penciled date indicating the correct date. Also in that group of photos Jane sent were two photos (shown second and third) which were taken August 20, 1958, and were noted to be taken at their 50th anniversary celebration.

Jane sent the photos by Charles and he gave them to me at the Alumni Banquet on Saturday night. Geraldine, Charles, Dutchie, Molly and I were looking at the photos and Dutchie noted how that Christmas must have been a warm one since everyone was wearing fairly light clothing.

It appears to me the anniversary photos were taken inside the house in Bordersville and I would guess it to be in the kitchen. Can anyone verify that assumption?
(Especially for Cheryl... below is the key to the people in the photos above...)

The best that I can remember, it was the kitchen in the old house in Bordersville. I remember the oil cloth table cloth that was on Grandma's kitchen table.

That's precisely what made me believe it was the kitchen, Gayle.

Who could forget the oil cloth table cloth?

Ok for those of us that came along "a little later in life" Please inform us as to the people in the pictures! I can spot Grandma Earnestine (only because I look like her) and Uncle Boyd. Any other names would be helpful.

Yes, this is the kitchen. The door you see in the right of the picture went into the front part of the house that was another bedroom. There was a door out of that room onto the front porch. This was the same side of the house that had the multi-trunked crepe myrtle in the front yard. In the picture with Grandma and Grandpa, on the left you can see the cabinets. As I recall, these were the only cabinets in the kitchen although she did have a small pantry on the back wall. I believe the house faced slightly east, but mostly north. Is my memory correct on that issue?

By the way, I am sure many of you remember that today is Grandma's birthday. If she were alive today she would be 118 as her birth year was 1890.

I didn't know today was Grandma's birthday.

I hope that Grandma knows she is remembered with so much love and that she founded a family that so values the special woman she was.

Ok! I guess I am so out of touch, I don't know where to start. Just remember that I moved when I was just 11 years old. I know all of the people in the photos but I am so sorry but could someone explain to me why I didn't know Grandma Earnestine having a sister named Velma. How does she fit into this puzzle?

Cheryl,

This is the birth order of Grandma and Grandpa Norris' living children. They had four children that did not live to adulthood.

1. Edna Ruby Norris Crockett, b October, 1913
2. Velma Viola Norris Shelby, b. December, 1917
3. Lewis David Norris, b 1919,
4. Dora Earnestine Norris Holcombe, b 1924
5. Mishael Ethridge Norris, Jr., b. October 1925
6. Boyd Olan Norris, b July, 1931

Also, Cheryl, I am compiling a family tree for the Norris descendants. I don't have your birth information nor that of your brother David. Could you please give me information on your birth date, wedding date, name of your husband and his birthdate, and the names and birthdates of your children?

Thank you, Geraldine Crockett Slaughter
