One of the pleasures of having articulate adult children is having a window on their childhood memories. Their memories are like time capsules. It has always amazed me though, to hear them talk about the things they remember as children. As the adult on scene when many of their childhood memories were made, I usually have a very different perspective on the events.
When Geraldine sent along the photo of Grandma Norris sorting Easter eggs after a hunt, a beloved childhood memory came flooding into my mind. I know, from other similar photographs in my parents’ photo albums, that this type of Easter scene must have occurred year after year. In my mind’s eye, there is a flash of Grandma with an apron filled with colorful eggs. Then, the flash of memory with Grandma on her knees sorting the eggs with various grandchildren crowded around. I wonder if, back then, Grandma had any idea that something that was probably just another holiday chore for her would fast forward 60 years to be a beloved memory for some of her brood.
The thread of family memory runs through us all. As much as the blood in our veins ties us together so do these memories.

(Can anyone identify the children with Grandma in the Easter egg photo>)

It would help if we had an approximate year of the photo, because the little boy sitting facing the camera looks like a Shelby and the white haired boy with his back could be Charles Holcombe, but without an approximate year, it's hard to tell.
I agree with your observation. Since Charles appears so young, I would have to believe the "Shelby" child is Tommy Shelby since he was closer to Charles' age. I was really more curious regarding the young girl on the ground to the left of Grandma. I would guess that child would be a Crockett and would maybe be Peggy, Dutchie or Marie since Geraldine would also be closer to Charles' age.
Any thoughts from the Crockett part of the family?
Also, the little girl standing on Grandma's right, with blonde hair... might that be Shirley Shelby? I can't think who else it would be other than Shirley. I don't remember the Shelby children having blonde hair but since the little boy (that I presume to be Tommy) has blonde hair, maybe Shirley had blonde hair too.
If I had to guess, not knowing exactly the year of Charles Holcombe's birth but based on how far ahead of me he was in school, I'd say this photo was in the time frame of 1943 or 1944.
Joy, Charles was born December 9, 1942.
If Charles was born in 1942, then this photo was probably taken in 1944 or 1945. Thanks for the info, Gayle.
That looks to be Mom (Peggy) on Grandmas right and Aunt Marie on Grandmas left. Not sure though. Aunt Marie's pictures are usually a dead give away because of her eyes.
Tommie is facing the camera. Dutchie is sitting on the ground behind Grandma, I think that that might be Marie beside Grandma. Kenneth is sitting on the ground in front of Grandma with a striped shirt on, not for sure who the blonde girl is but it looks like Charles with his back toward the camera. The picture did not have a date on it so I'm guessing that it was taken about 1945 which would make Tommie about 3 yrs old
I suspect that the little girl with the "blond looking" hair is me.
