Hello Family Members

If you've found your way here, you've done so by linking to this blog location via the email I sent you. It's possible to set up a "feed" so that any time there is new content added to this family blog, you will be automatically notified through your regular email system. For the time being, either save the email I sent you with the link that got you here or you can add this blog site as a "favorite".

Please be patient with me and I'll try to provide instructions on how to do these things. Otherwise, if you have kindergarden through junior high age grandchildren or great-grandchilden, one or two of them will probably be more than happy to help you out. Older than that, they tend to not have much time for the old folks until they get old enough to want you to baby-sit.

I have high hopes for this little family endeavor and I hope you all will help me out by reading regularly, contributing your family news and photos and letting me know what you'd like to see here. I will accept tidbits of your family news which I will write up and post or you can write a piece yourself and I will post it for you. (Editing will be done only in the area of minor spelling and punctuation for clarity's sake and for appropriate content in a family-oriented blog.)

Now for the real fun stuff.....

Regarding the three photos above: I have no idea who took them or how they came to be in my hands. I scanned them sometime back for my personal digital photo files but there are kids in them that, while I know they are family, I'm not sure just which ones they are. I would like for those of you who can supply names and approximate ages to email me with that information which I will share when it becomes available.

Feel free to copy any photos posted in this blog to your own computer. It's a great way to share photos both old and new.

When identifying people in photos, please refer to photo 1, photo 2, etc. and work from left to right.

I used to think that "Throw Out the Lifeline" was a lullaby because Grandma Norris used to rock the babies to sleep singing it!!

Hi! Cheryl (Smith) Kilgore. Photo #1 is that Uncle Jimmy Novak in the background? Why does it look like all of these are taken at the Holcombe's in Onalaska? Last photo, is the brunette Tereasa Novak and the blonde Tonya Dunn, other two I have not a clue.

This is such fun!

Hi Cheryl,

That is indeed Jimmy Novak and Teresea. I believe the pictures were taken at Huntsville State Park where the reunions used to take place. Not for sure though.

Tommy,

What happened to all of the pictures that Charles took. I remember that every time that I would see he and Aunt Velma, he would take pictures. I'll bet there are a lot of great pictures.

Yes Cheryl, that is Teresea and Jimmy Novak, Jr. The blond is Tonya Dunn Franklin and I think that the red head is the little girl Mary that used to live with Aunt Velma and Charles. I also think that the pictures were taken at Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Junior's house they had out across Lake Houston.

Gayle,

Now I remember that little redheaded girl. Your memory is much better than mine!

I believe you are right about the location on that last photo, Gayle. I was thinking all along that it was at Huntsville until I looked closer. I think I recognize that well house in the background of one of the photos. I'll have to compare the photo with Buddy in it to the photo I have of all our immediate family members lined up against the house. That should verify it.

All right... I compared the photos to the one I have of us lined up against the house for the "immediate family" photo. It has to be the same occasion which was April 7, 1984, at the lake house on Shady Lane in Huffman. It was just off Luce's Bayou.

I am still wondering who the woman is standing facing Uncle Lewis. I don't have a clue.

Also, wasn't the little girl who lived with Aunt Velma named "Merry" rather than "Mary"?

Gayle Holcombe Walger said...

No Kathy, my memory is not that good. I just remember her. Joy, was that the woman that Richard Shelby was married to. I can't remember. I think that they were there for a little while. I think that you are right about the name, I think that it was "Merry".

I thought it a was little strange for someone to take wooden lawn furniture all the way to Huntsville. Joy, who is the man in the middle of the picture wearing the yellow shirt?

Hi Aunt Julie,

We are doing fine. Kids are growing like bad weeds. I'm realizing this year that Dave, Daniel and I are the only ones left. Now, I'm the only girl!! I should be the princess, right (not)!!!
Maybe I will come home this summer. We'll see.

It was a great moment when I opened my email today and there looking at me was my grandmother, Earnestine. Unfortunately, I did not get to meet my g-grandparents although Mom would tell of stories at their house and church days. This blog is great!!!
